How To Convince Mom To Let You Have Something

Just would like to add (even if it is an older thread) that as a parent, you want to make your children happy, especially on their birthdays.
 
Act as responsible and mature as you can. Let your parents know what your heart's desire is, drop hints every few weeks to let them know that you're serious about your wish, be understanding if your parents bring up counter points, and come up with logical, non-emotional answers and solutions to their concerns.

Yeah haha this thread is over a year old.  It's relevant to me though because I'm going through pretty much the same thing except I need to persuade my husband instead of parents!

Oh no no it won't... believe me.  The other half is already sick to death of hearing about fish.  It winds him up.  I need to win him over so that he enjoys the fish too, not annoy him until he hates the sight of them!
 
Meeresstille has got it right.  Have a plan worked out.  Don't just say "I want another tank" but be prepared with good reasons why it would be a good idea AND an enthusiastic explanation of exactly what you are planning to do with it!  This shows you've put some thought into it first.  Ideally, wait until they're in a good mood or perhaps watching the fish before bringing the subject up!  Also be prepared to show willingness to compromise and take other opinions into consideration.

Generally, I find that it might be a lot easier just to ask dad. If not, I'd just be as responsible as possible to prove that you can take care of a second tank. This might convience her that it won't be any extra work on her part.

I'm not sure why people are still responding to this thread. With it having been started a year and a half ago, I suspect the situation is resolved one way or the other by now, so further "advice" is pointless.
