Well ive recently set up a 350l mixed malawi tank and need to be doing approx 100l water changes a week (correct me if im wrong).

The problem is it takes the p1ss to empty 100l of water with my 10l bucket and the gravel vac then takes the p1ss evan more to fill it back up.

Would it be acceptable to empty it straight outside with a hose, add the necessary declhorinator and malawi treatmnet to a bucket of warm water so its nicely mixed, add this to the tank, then fill it back up with the hose from the inside tap?

If this is no good what would you suggest???

Thanks in advance

10L bucket is better than my 4L bucket of icecream.

):

Where'd you get the bucket? :D

And also, it's not that hard to do it 10 times gathering water. It's just patience and strength.

:) I don't think a hose would work. the current would be too strong for the fish, if you try to pour it it, and it'll lead to drastic water temp changes.

EDIT : or if i misunderstood.

The problem is with the bucket aswell ive just had a op on my shoulder so cant really lift anything let alone 10l of water.

As for flow when i pour water in normally theres more than a bit of flow

): I'm not sure about the dechlor and treatment, and that stuff cause I never worked with that idea. ):

Is there a large problem with your regular process of 100l?

Yes, missunderstood. On a 25% waterchange with a hose, the maximum theoretically possible temperature drop would be in the region of 6.5oC. In reality you will never get that  To get that, all the water would need to hit the tank at once, at 0oC. In reality, the water from the tap would be about 4oC in winter, 10oC in summer, entering over several minuites, with ambient heating as it passed through the house, and from the tank lights, and also warmed by the tank heater. In practice, 2oC is more likely in winter, and that type of temperature drop can induce spawning in many species :good:

For pressure, turn the tap down for larger waterchanges, I spend 1 hour re-filling from my 50%'s. For small changes, point the hose at the tank wall, and that will spred the flow, stopping the fish from being blasted :good:

All the best

Thanks for all the info and like i said the biggest problem is my mullerd shoulder so making 20+trips with a bucket is a problem

Thanks for the link il look into that

Like i said my biggest concern was adding declorinator to the tank then the water but i suppose once full its all mixed anyway

If it helps, I did the same with my 100L water changes.

Loads of buckets, loads of hassle and loads of water on the floor.

Now I gravel vac with a hose that runs to the outside drain - I Vac until the whole 100L is taken out, then simple connect the other end to a tap, and slowly re-fill the tank.

Dechlor goes in before I refil

hehe i must be the only muppet who manually empties 300litres with a 10L bucket and refills with the 10L bucket, takes forever, my problem is we have odd shape mixer taps all over the flat can never find anything to fix to them

Will a python not fit?

nelly you muppet, go to b&q or similar and get an adjustable tap connector, they come in all shapes and sizes plus have different size washers. My taps are awkward and I got a hoselock (I think) large tap thing, it sits over the top of the tap, then with the washers inside to fit the hole of the tap, tighten it up and away you go

Although in your case, working on those (non-existant) muscles might be good for ya

war what is it good for? absoutley nothing but in minxys case, run girl run,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,there coming to get ya,,,,,sleep with one eye open gripping ya pillow tight...
iam going to take a wee trip to the b and q store some point this week me thinks

I couldn't find anything to fit my house taps (non of them). Had to fit a new "old fashioned" tap in the end.
