no oak leaves arnt the same
peat is like semi-decayed plant matter ... you find it in swamps

not sure its completely crucial but it will make it a hell of alot easier

no no no i have oak extract and it lowers the ph and it also has a tinge to the colour, the colour is light brown

its not peat

the substrate is important because the eggs are like a grain of sand .... the tank will need to be planted as neons spawn in the leaves and lay eggs on them
usualy it works best in autum

oh yea and what is the point of the peat, just to lower the ph cuz i can do that with my oak extract, but basically to breed the neon tetras i have to lower the ph, and once i have the eggs, i take them out and put them in a dark contianer for 3-4 days then once they hatch i...

well i tried to sex my neon tetras but i cannot really identify them...its not as easy as livebearers

the green/blue line down the side of there body will be straight for a male and have a bump in the middle for a female... female tend to be a bit bigger aswell ...

how old r they???

they need to be about 9 months before they r sexualy mature

i think they are half a year old

just so u no... this is regurgitated from what i was told ... lol

what i reckomend u do is

get ureself a 30 litre tank, set it up ... cycle for 6 weeks... wait another 6 months (cause neons r crap for new tanks)

put peat in as the substrate.... heavily plant the tank

put 1 male and 1 female into the tank IN THE AFTERNOON

neons breed in the morning ... so this is why you put them in the tank overnight

at midday, after they have spawned remov both male and female... and just wait .... GOOD LUCK neons r hard 2 breed ...
