How To Breed Bettas

hi there deos any 1 know what medicine to give your bettas after breeding as no shops in the uk sell betamax well not what i can see

I have A 20 gallon tank with a divider in it. I have the male on one side and female on the other. Is it possible to just get them ready for breeding and then put the female in the males side to breed them put her back and remove him when neccesary? That way i won't have to set up a whole other tank to put them in. Will it work?

Hi, lamme,
welcome home.
Since none of the experts have shown up yet...
The male will be guarding the eggs: he may eat the fry down the road if not separated: the fry will need to be fed messy, tiny things often and their tank cleaned frequently.
You'll want a separate, easy-to-clean tank - and I gather it'll be tricky enough trying to syphon out uneaten food before any spikes occur without sucking up more babies than yuckies.
There will probably be an actual, experienced breeder along soon to provide detailed advice, but it really sucks starting on a new forum and wondering if anyone's out there becase you've had no response yet...

Hey. I don't think that's a good idea. When the male is guarding the nest, you'll want to not have the female near. He will get quite annoyed at constantly seeing her and thinking she'll be able to get to the eggs. (after a spawn the male usually forces the female away until you can take her out). Also, as the babies are growing you'll want to give them as much water as possible (and with frequent water changes too). Hormones and wastes from adult bettas can inhibit and affect the growth of the young betta fry so that's another bad factor for keeping either a female or male in the other half of the divided tank.

I'd say it's a much better idea overall to have a completely separate tank for spawning the bettas. Then you can take both parents out to their own tanks at the appropriate times.

Do you have any other questions I can help you with?

Thank you guys... no more questions for now!

If you're worried about current and especially for the babies, I would suggest any sponge filter :) Babies can't get sucked up them ;)

hi just started the process again has last time failed conditiond and put in he is looking at thm but not flaring ? why is this happing how long does it take to build bubble nest?

have you re-conditioned the pair?

i started conditioning my pair last week, am moveing the male to his breeding tank sometime this week then the female later next week, my male regularly builds bubblenests so i am hoping he has one made before the female is in the tank

yes i have re-conditioned but they are now both together he does not seem to be flaring and no bubbels? why?

then i am lead to think they are not ready, if he isn't building a nest then he isn't interested in breeding, did you remove the female whilst re-conditioning?

How do you know when the female has eggs and is ready to spawn. And is it ok to have a divider in a 20 gallon tank and let them see each even when they aren't ready to spawn or do i need to make the divider to where they can't see each other?
