Drip is most certainly the best way to go over several hours. It really depends on your tank params compared to the water the inverts/fish/corals are currently in. I always test and go from there....

So, for example, if I bought something from a mate just round the corner and I know his tank runs at 1.026 with little phosphate, < 10 nitrates then I would probably just bring them up to temp and stick em in :good:, however if the sg was at 1.016  which it has been in the past when I bough a coral, I would want to acclimatise for many hours

can you explain the drip method please, as i only know the tropical one.

i so cant wait for my CUC, secretally im calling it a reward from mum

Get a bucket, length of tubing and a clamp, the sort with a tap on that you can regulate flow with.

Put the tube in your tank, fill with water, put thumb on one end and move it to the bucket, so one end in tank, one end in bucket, open the little tap so you are getiing drips coming out, sit back and wait :p

i may have to have a trial of that before then, i think i might have one of those flow restricters.

how would you get them in the bucket to acclimitise without harming them and stressing them out

For inverts and corals, i just pick um up :p although there are some animals/corals that should not be taken out of water.

For a fish, i use a glass, i hate nets! But it does mean I get a bit of their water, which isnt so good, but so much less stressful for the fish

i would be too worried about picking them up.
can you use a net if done super quick?

I have been wondering this myself, do you add all the water that is in the bag that they came in and pur that into the bucket first? then start dripping once they are in there? Just confused as you said you get a bit of their water which isn't good?

If I have to catch a fish/shrimp, I use a glass, so i would get some of their water and you never know what lurks in their water do you, but saying that, I have bought all my fish as juvies, so only needs a little :good:

Fishy, as long as you are careful, you will not hurt them, for snails I usually tickle their foot and they then let go  can work with anemones as well
