Being a Newbie i am seeking some experienced advice on feeding my fish.

I have a Juwel Rekord 70 litres

On purchasing my fish (6 danio's) I was informed by my LFS to only feed my fish once every 2 days, on querying this with them they informed me that it would take 4 months for a fish to die of starvation.

I have been feeding every other day for the past 2 weeks and now that I have added an additional 5 red eyed tetras, what do you recommend as the most sensible approach to feeding my 11 fish.

PS tank is cycled & i'm performing 20% changes per week.

Thanks in advance.

feed twice a day, morning and late afternoon
feed a varity of foods, including flakes, pellets, live/frozen (bloodworm, etc)
fast for one day, usally water change day

It depends on the fish, their ages, and what you are trying to accomplish. On a newer community tank every other day is good. It's always better to underfeed than to overfeed.

I usually feed once a day and sometimes will skip a day. As Tolak mentioned, better to underfeed than overfeed. Overfeeding is the #1 cause of algae problems (and snail problems too as they love excess food).

I have the same tank as you :good:
I feed:
On a Monday Frozen Brine Shrimp
Tuesday a pinch of sinking pellets(if top level fish eat it all i add soem more for the bottom dwellers ;)
Wednesday Frozen bloodworm
Thursday Frozen Daphinia
Friday Pellets
Saturday Frozen bloodworm
Sunday adhesive pellet and algae pellle

Obviously i dotn have this set but thatsthe sorta guideline to what i give them

Oh yeah i skip a day on either friday or sunday and i sometimes give them live bloodworm and lettuce or cucmumber

Be careful feeding bloodworms that often. Fish love them but they are very high in protein and thus hard to digest so they can lead to constipation problems. Also, a side note, I'm surprised one of the mods hasn't deleted your signature as it doesn't meet the forum guidelines. I haven't been active in a while so they maybe don't police it like the used to. Just wanted to mention it because people usually get mad and post a "why did they do that" thread after it happens to them. Most people aren't even aware the forum has the guidlines although they are in the pinned section of this subforum..

I feed mine once or twice a day with small amounts. It's usually flakes in the morning and brine shrimp at night with the occasional live worm.

I think the reason the lfs told you to feed every other day is because your tank is still cycling. This is a time when you risk getting high ammonia levels, so feeding less frequently is at least one way of cutting down on ammonia. As you have just added more fish, I would keep on with every other day and monitor levels of ammonia and nitrites carefully for the next month or so. if everything is still going fine then, you can start feeding more frequently.
