I feed once a day every day lately. Use to staveevery weekend cos I was out of town but have since got an automatic feeder for these days.
I feed flakes to my gourami and tetras and sinking wafers for my cory. The assasin snails look after themselves with a choice of about 60 other snails in my tank.lol
It gives the fish a chance to clean out their systems. In the wild fish can go up to a week or more without food, almost all captive fish are overfed so a starve day can help balance out some of the overfeeding, and can make picky fish more receptive to food.
I feed daily at least once. For small fish and fry I like top feed more than once. The variety of food is important and no single food is ever good enough for my fish. All feedings are small quantities because I don't want to overfeed or foul my water. Fish in the wild eat constantly although they may never get fully satisfied by what they find. Fish in my tanks do net get to nibble constantly except on the minor amounts of microscopic food they can find growing on the plants and living in the water column. An aquarium is just too small for the fish to be able to find all of the natural food that they need.
I feed generally every day but miss out a day or two every now and then when I'm not around or otherwise busy.
Dont really have a staple, they get mainly frozen foods but lots of different types, also wafers, pellets, flake and fresh veg too, just depends on what I feel like feeding them.
Live food would be considered a treat though, they get mosquito larvae/daphnia from my pond and brine shrimp whenever I can be bothered .
