how often do i change the peat in my filter?

Hi, Can anyone help with how often i need to change the peat i put in my Jewel Filter? Also how much should i be putting in there to soften the water?

I change half the peat in my filter every 6 weeks or sooner if the pH starts to rise.
as for how much, I'm afraid that is going to be hit and miss with your tank untill you get it correct. all tanks will vary and there is no specific amount per gallon.

hmmmm ok, Well i wasn't sure because i've only put a smallish amount in my filter for my 180 litre tank. I just eventually want discus quality water but obvious want to avoid changes too quickly.

I'm also boiling some peat and adding this to my water during water changes.

i thought for this to work properly you'd need to change it like once each week?
