Just curious if anyone could answer this? I love hermit crabs and would love a little hermit only nano style set up. I was figuring somewhere about at least 2g? I have a 6g tank I'm in the process of taking down would that be suitable for a few hermits?

Oh and I don't know what species they are, their always hiding in the liverock at my LFS so I cant see them and only listed as hermit crabs $4.95

Yes six gallon will do fine. 4.95 for hermits are a HUGE rip off. I payed .99$ for mine and that's as much as I'm willing to pay.

Except I live in the middle of nowhere and to find ANY marine livestock for that price is fantastic, generally its $80+ blue chromis which I gather are fairly common fish are $20 per half inch fish. Prices can vary greatly from country to country.

Can you get fish shipped to you? Even with shipping you will save a lot of money.

I dunno, atmmachine, he's only getting a few hermits...

Also, if they're always hiding in the LR, what makes you think they won't hide in your tank?

Well if he combines the order with something else or someone it would be ok. Best to make the store tell you what type they are before you get them.

The only online fish store sells clowns and seahorses, and to be honest if I wanted fish in a saltwater I would add mollies, the saltwater fish dont do much for me. Plus once again the price is not something I'm willing to pay for a single fish ($40+)

Everytime I've been at the pet store theres been kids banging on the glass of the marine tank and trying to get the "pwetty seastar"to move. I'm hoping to do an FO set up, with just a few hermits no liverock etc. I'm happy to pay $4.95 for a hermit...

if you plan to have a FO tank and you want hermits, myself personally would highly recommend LR or your going to have lots of troubles, my hermits will only go on LR only a few come on the sand

I have read that one dwarf hermit per gallon of water, but most pickup their food from picking on live rock. A fish only tank should still have live rock, it just would not have corals. In a nano where room is a precious comodity so room for live rock is limited, Live sand for a substrate is almost a necessity. In a 2 gal nano tank, I would not consider a regular sized hermit.
