My buddy works at a fish store. They have a bulletin board in front that people post things that they are selling, events, and other random flyers. Someone put up a flyer for a 5 foot long tank, stand, hood, and I believe lights. They just said "Best offer".

How much do you think I should offer her for it?

It is about 45 miles away, but that only matters ifI have to make two trips to pick it up (probably will though). 180 miles is a bit much, but worth it if I can get a hell of a deal.

I do not expect the lights to be worth much so I am not figuring them into the offer price.

I had figured I would offer $100 US. Would that be insulting? Should I offer less? If there was ANY price listed I would have something to base it on, instead I get tempted to low-ball her and see where it goes.

Any opinions?

(forgot to say, Thanks in advance)

5 feet... thats gotta be what.. 70 gallons?

i saw one for sale for $200 canadian in the paper.. and i thought that was a hell of a deal.... so i donno... maybe you should call and ask approx what he was thinking... then offer him less LOL

:fish:

My buddy looked up 5' tanks from the distributors and the only one 5' long was 100 US gallons.

That is basically what I was thinking of doing, but I was not sure if 100 would be too low. I guess I am probably never going to meet the person anyway, so if they do get insulted by $100 dollar bid they can be. If nothing else, I am sure they like bargains themselves and would understand the offer

$200 would still be cheap, but I always seem to find these deals when I am strapped for cash. Hmm, would could I sell to buy this tank :shifty:

Thanks

if you possibly have to make 2 trips, hire a trailor for the day

if its through email.. jus ask him how much he was thinking..... then in the same message... say your really short on cash... then suggest approx $150 maybe

for a 100 gallon $150 is rlly good

a friend of mine in the US paid $375 for a 125 gallon w/ stand and everything

so i donno what will happen with you.... lol

Doggfather, excellent idea. I will check into that. Then again I guess I should just fix my pickup. (Nasty oil leak, may take too long to fix and then I would miss out on getting the tank, hmm)

Defiantelly will not be shipped. I would be very happy with $150 if everything was in good shape. Once I figure in the price of a trailer (wich I would happen to mention to the seller ;) ) I would start adding up. Of course it would still be less than half the price of new.

Hopefully it is from a divorcee and it was her husbands, and maybe even the fish drove them apart? Hmm, there are all kinds of ideas for why I would be able to get a great price :D I guess it just comes down to the telephone call. I hope she is not like most of us, and selling this tank is the last thing she wants to do

Who cares if he is insulted? Ask as low as you want, you never know how badly he wants to sell it, and if he doesn't accept your price then he doesn't have to sell it, or he can come up with a counter offer - that's what haggling is all about. The lower you start the bargaining, the lower a price you will more likely end up with.
