S StandbySetting Fish Aficionado Joined Apr 1, 2011 Messages 4,383 Reaction score 203 Location Void Oct 12, 2011 #5 For a planted tank I'd recommend an average height of 5cm, 36*22*5 = 3960, divide this by 1000 and you get 3.960 litres, lets just call it 4L, the density of standard silica sand is 1.6Kg dcm[sup]-3[/sup], so 4*1.6 = 7.4Kg of sand.
