my p.h from tap is 7.6. over night it gets to 7.0 how mugh would it change if bog wood was put in with the water as i am planning my next tank trying to go for a 50 gallon or bigger ( I ain't paying for tank christmas present)

it fluctuates from 7.0 to 7.6 daily? are you adding CO2?

no the p.h of the water straight from the tap is 7.6 and i tested by leaving some in a jug over night then the p.h. of that water was 7.0 the water in my tanks stay at 7.0. Just wanted to know if bogwood would effect the p.h of the tank water

Cool aslong as there ain't a major change in p.h but will to all my testing a asking questions when it comes round to it

the degree to which things like bogwood or peat will lower your pH is highly dependent on the water's hardness (gH & kH). do you have readings for those?

they didn't come in the kit but as soon as my folks get home well go to the pet place and pick the test up. Should be going there to look at cableing boxes to cut down on all the plugs I have

I don't understand why it would drop so much just standing in a bucket with no aeration, filtration or anything. But as everone else has stated, the bogwood will definitely lower your pH.

No doubt that if it falls so much, you need to keep the water in buckets with an airstone on before you do a water change...

Not really, it's not that big a difference.

You need to remember that even if you're doing a 50% water change weekly (which most people don't) then you will have half the water at 7.0 and half at 7.6 giving a final pH in the tank of 7.3 which isn't too big a swing. Just add the water slowly and your fish will be fine.

When I do my tropicals (weekly with my other tanks) I leave there water overnight with my spare heater in it to get it to temp. The change from 7.6 to 7.0 I think is because of the bad stuff leaving the water. When I started this tank someone said that a p.h change of 0.2 would cause stress on the fish
