I divided my 5gal this weekend and put a betta on each side. One of them is pretty cool with everything; he'll go up to the divider and flares at the other one from time to time. The other one however, will flare almost constantly. Is that unhealthy for him, and is he going to calm down or should I do something?

Trust me on this one. IME, when my most aggressive betta was put in the middle of two other males, he flared constantly. After about a week or so, he was much used to his surroundings, and now he flares just occationally.

 I have three mini bow tanks with dividers in each one. The first tank has a veil tail and a spade tail betta. The spade tail could care less about anything. He is always exploring and will sometimes hang and stare at the other betta but rarely flares. His tank mate will explore and every now and then flare up at the other but it doesn't last very long.

The two in the second tank will flare but at the same time then peel off and go around their area exploring. When they meet up again they'll flare and repeat the action and go off.

The third pair will flare and then swim off - one to ride the current and the other to explore. When the current brings the one within flaring distance, he flares and off they go again.

All action is halted when anyone approaches the tank. They think it's dinner time!!!
