Hi i'm new on here, and yesterday i was given 3 zebra Danio's from a friends tank. Two of them seem to have paired off and i think the other one is feeling a bit left out and seems to be spending a lot of time at the back of the tank so i think i need to get a couple more, i've got a 60l tank so i'm aware of the space issue, do you think its ok to get another 2? i'd really like to have some harlequin rasbora's and a couple of cories as well.

thanks
Liz

is the tank brand new? the fact that one is hiding away is not a good sign, usually a sign if disease/stress rather than that the other two have paired as danio's don't really pair off as such.

if the tank is new then read the link in my sig 'whats cycling' which will hopefully start your understanding on the problem here.

no the tank is cycled and I've been taking regular readings, I only put them in yesterday and my tank is planted whereas they came from one with plastic plants and other fish so i think maybe he is just exploring and not sure what to make of the extra space  just the two seem to be playing and chasing and while the other one has been joining them he just seems a bit more interested in other things.
hopefully there is nothing wrong!

ok good, take the water readings today and let us know what they are

it'll most likely just be them settling in however it's always worth checking the water.

another 2 danio's would be fine, you could then have 5 harlequins and a trio of pygmy cories or something like that down the line. :good:

ok thanks, I will do and will let you know later

I've got one who I swear is waaaaay too easily entertained, by far. The shoal will be swimming around and then one of 'em gets a case of the "Ooo-look-there's-Shiney-Things-over-there" and toddles off to go look.

After a good old nosey, he/she/it suddenly realises that he/she/it's on it's own and pelts full speed across the tanks to re-join the others! Silly creature!

:hyper:

tested the water, no ammonia, no nitrites and test strip says 25 on nitrates (very pale pink anyway). couldn't resist it and got another 2 to join them they are sooo much smaller but seem to be getting on ok, origional 3 are from October i think and at least 6 times bigger! recon I've got two males and a female of the bigger ones, they seemed happy enough when i got home all had some dinner and swimming around together.

I think the 'left out' one must just be more curious, him and the two new ones seem to be doing a lot more exploring than the other two that are just interested in each other :fish:

glad i got these fish they are very entertaining, one of the new little ones seems fascinated with the current from the filter.
