How Many Times A Day Do You Feed Your Bettas

if they wont eat peas, you can try the cooked tips of broccoli too (the little green "balls" on the ends)..they do the same thing...just adds some fiber to their diet.
cheers

I don't know if this is true but i think peas might (MIGHT!!!!) be bad for a betta.
I have tried peas but my betta is not dead yet. Frozen peas thawed and shelled if you are. I feed my betta twice daily with 2 pellets and 1 very small bit of shrimp ("Freshwater sun dried gammarus" the can says).
Flakes are not really recommended.
I am not trying to sound mean or hypocritical or criticizing or what.
If i am doing something wrong please tell me.

Ooh, I'd like to hear the reasonings for these :)

I haven't an idea how to quote, so I'll just say this. Betta are carnivores so the peas might (MIGHT!!!!) be bad for tier digestive system. M-I-G-H-T I don't know if this is totally true. I told you I fed my betta peas and she's not dead.

Oh yeah and beggar will eat flakes but pellets are usually better.

I mean betta. Said beggar thanks to auto spell check.

Click the reply button which is at the bottom of the post to quote it, not the one at the bottom of the thread :good:

You are correct in that Bettas are obligate carnivorous, as their staple diet is floating insect larvae, which means that they can not digest the fibre-rich peas, which means that they just pass straight through the digestive tract, clearing it out in the process. So, while they are not able to digest peas, the peas are still not harmful to them as they don't really interact with the digestive system.

But *why* do you say that pellets are better?

I didnt come up with this thing! I read it on another forum
It might be wise not to repeat everything you read then, especially if it is stated without reasoning  that's how baseless assumptions and assertions become popular, and there are plenty of those going around in fishkeeping!

Flakes and pellets have very similar nutritional value, and Bettas are equally capable of eating both. Pellets are slightly easier to count out for the average person, but this is probably not an issue if other fish are kept in the same aquarium. :good:
