How Many Loachs

i was told once that clown loachs should be kept alone. but recently my mates clown loach has started to eat his guppys tails.and i was thinking of getting 1 for my tank but should they be kept alone or in a shoal ?

The first qustion would be what size is your tank? With clown loaches reported to grow 16 inches in the wild http/www.loaches.com/species-index/clown...ia-macracanthus and growing at least 11 inches in aquariums you need to be sure you have adequate tank space. If you have room the bigger group the better.

it is a 200l (dont know in gs soz)
so my answer is about 3 maybe 4

200l is a little more than 50 US gallons. Too small for adult clowns. Have you checked out getting some striata or kubotai? They don't get as big. What else is in your tank, though? Make sure they'll all work out well together before buying.

Good point but have to remember to make sure the resources will be available to upgrade when the time comes, or be willing to part with the fish. I got the feeling the topic starter was wanting to put them in a community so they'd need to decide if the clowns are really what they want and worth the effort to change their system either now or in a few years.

They'll be fine for a while but I would be afraid of keeping them in for too long in case you stunt them.
