I had seven fish in my tank - six guppies and one pygmy cory. Five died and now there are just two female guppies left. The fish just kind of hang out and don't seem to be playful at all. I'm going to add more plants to the tank and am wondering if one more guppy is added, the fish will be more social?

Would this be the case? The tank is small (only 5-gallon) so one more fish is the most I'd feel comfortable adding.

do the fish have any sign of illness? they normaly fine in trios 2 females and 1 male. more would be better but 3 will be fine. i would wait a least a week before adding any more fish to make sure of no illness.also how long have u had the tank setup?

Tanks been set up for 5-6 months, maybe. . .I'm not sure. There isn't any illness and I am doing regular water changes. The deal is I do not want fry so I'm going to have to try and find an unpregnant female (if possible). The two females I have now seem to get a long very nicely, so I guess I lucked out with them!

In a tank that size really u dont no more than 4 fish in it, if ya want more fish u will have to a lot more water changes to keep on top.

Okay, thanks. I ended up getting a third female today. She's very small but has a huge pregnant tummy! Since the tank is so small, I'll be sure to do regular water changes. Recently, I've been doing every other day and the guppies are more alert. :)

i have 11 in total in my tank and they chase each other around love my bubble wall and get up to misschieve but in a 5 gallon its a bit small i would really say that they love the freedom to swim about and if u have load just as livebearer master said you will end up doing a lot of water changes and it ends up being a chore rather than a hobbie but good luck :)

Thanks.

I have six tanks and am use to all the water changes. lol My guppy appears not to be pregnant (or as pregnant) anymore. After a few hours, her tummy is now a lot flatter. When she was put in the tank, the light had been turned off and it's still off. I don't see any fry. She must have been stressed from the move or something.

If your female has suddenly gone from very heavy to empty looking, chances are that you have some fry to look out for. A group of 3 female guppies is plenty for most small tank situations. If you have any decent cover in the tank, you will soon have more fish than you can easily accommodate.
