How Many Fish For Tank

Wow what a mix of fish you have.

Thing is shops will say anything to sell there stock, even if they know better.

I was in a shop the other day and was browsing. I mentioned I wanted to add something different at later stage as I like to wait a while before adding new fish. I also made it clear I knew what fish are ok with others, knowing this she didnt try phobbing me off. 2 mins later a poor bloke came in and asked for 4 neons, then 2 tiger babrs, she was ready to bag them all together until I pointed out the tiger babrs arent suxh a good idea, esp being 2. The look she threw me could kill. She never even asked him any questions so I did, what size tank he has, whats in it already etc.. I then said well going on that you could choose from these fish (he also had male fancy guppies) and showed him what would be great to go in. He was really pleased but the woman wasnt, she slammed things about and mumbled what sounded like "Ohh maybe you should work, after all im the fish expert" My reply to be "obviously your not" Thing is she did know what was what because we were talking about before hand, but to them if your paying they will sell you anything.

Ohh made that a long boring drift off post, sorry

ok this is it

21 neons 5 guppies (1 male 4 female ) 2 dwarf gourami ( male ) 2 small silver sharks 1 golden algea eater 1 albino pleco
1 male siamese fighting fish 1 angelfish 2 shrimps 4 ballon mollies 2 black widow tetra 5 zebra danio 5 pencil fish

as for the shop owner i dont think he would be like the person your on about as its his reputation on the line his business wouldn't have lasted 30yrs if he treated people in that way

the place where i bought all the fish the guy that owns it has 30yrs + experience so what do i tell him with the advice i had on here make him look like he do know nothing at all !

this is a pic of the algae eater i got
He may have 30+ years of experience, but remember he does run a shop and therefore is required to make a profit....
That algae eater is the same species from the link i gave you!. Even the link you gave me suggests that it is unsuitable for your aquarium...

ive had the algae eater since i had the 50p shape tank with the guppies and the 2 larger neons (appox 4 mths) and its been fine with all the fish it very quiet and keeps itself to itself

Kazycar, you seem really stubborn and wont listen to a word anyone says on here.

Trust me, take these peoples advice, these people are the experts.

The man may have 30yrs experience, but he will sell you anything, especially because the profit is going into his pocket. I had a lady try and sell me 2 bala sharks for a 18lt tank, she just wanted the money, didnt care about the sharks and also didnt care about their welfare.

I am never mean to new people on here, but your not going to get far around here if you dont listen to these people. You will be labeled cruel soon and it will get real nasty.

Amen, if you are so satisfied with this supplier why do you keep comming to this forum with complaints. Do you want advice or a ongoing argument? Scott

1 albino pleco (died last nite ) dont know why

just asking for a help not arguing with any1 but no need to run down supplier

Hmm I wonder why (please note my sarcasm).

yeah sarcasm is about all you do not much help are you ......... NOT sheila

30 plus years experience doesn't mean that your supplier is giving you the right information, your supplier may not know any better himself as fishkeeping 10, 20 or 30 years ago was much different than it is today. Even the better fish stores I've been to will sell me a fish, no questions asked, recommend a tank much too small or inappropriate tank mates. Many people have tanks like yours with a less than optimal mix of fish, some people define "success" as keeping such a tank peacefully (and alive) for six months. Most of the people on this forum define success as keeping a fish for its full lifespan (usually years) at its full size in conditions approximating what it would experience in the wild (predatory fish by themselves, schooling fish in groups etc.) How long have you had this mix of fish? Problems that people are talking about are going to be long term problems as the fish mature.

Guppies, gouramis and angelfish are all best avoided with male bettas, he'd be better off in a small tank by himself. Your golden algae eater is the same type shown in the first link, Gyrinocheilus Aymonieri, just a juvenile with a different color form. They do get big and mean, note the maximum size of 4 cm yet fish ship at 4-5 cm? Somebody is lying there. Seen tons of fish sold as "dwarf" that get well over a foot, usually algae eaters. Try otos or pitbull plecs (research any plec species before you buy, seen plenty of commons and sailfins sold as "dwarf" species.) Bala sharks need a big big tank and a group larger than two. Always see tons of juvenile sharks in the shops and lots of employees ready to label them as easy small community fish for a quick sell. If you rehome your sharks and algae eater and get a small tank for your betta, you've got a well stocked tank especially considering that your angelfish will grow much larger as well.
