How Many Discus In This Tank?

Hello,

Recently brought 2 discus and i am in love, but i was a bit naive when i brought them never kept them before (have done my homework on them though) I brought a male and female sold as a breeding pair but didnt breed (hence why they where sold) they are fairly big 5-5.5 inches, and the male is a bit pecky towards the female so ive decided i need to upgrade my tank and get more of them. My tanks 4 foot long but not that tall really, and i'm thinking of having a custom tank with the dimensions 48 inches long 12 inches deep and 25 inches high, would have it deeper but thats what my stand is so want it to fit that, it will be about 52 gallons, just wondering how many discus i could keep in this? Gonna have it pretty bare just a few small plants in a pocket of sand.

hi there,

i used to have 4 discus in my 200l (45g) tank. maybe you could have more as my tank also contained corys and cardinals. were you planning on adding any other fish?

Ive got a group of corys in there and a female golden ram and female krib, i was gonna go with another 2 at first anyway see what happens so ill do that see how it looks

I would personally take the krib out. i know from first hand experience that kribs and discus dont mix lol

agreed the krib should go , then up your group of discus to 6 .

5 is a good number to keep and you can keep 5 in a 60-70gal. Discus are great fish my other big sa chilids have been boring me lately but my discus are aways fun to watch.

+1! soryy didn't notice that you had a Krib! if you are going to add discus, it really would be better if this was taken out...not a good combination!! then add 2 discus with a view to adding 2-4 more. sure it will look great.

this is the 4th krib ive had, shes the only one so far to not show aggression rest have gone back to shop. If she shows any aggression towards my discus she is out, same as the keyholes and gourami that where in there. Shes quite placid but i have a firm eye on her. Got my new tank today its 210 litres, picking up a pair of turq discus tomorrow cant wait

5 max really, esp as yours are big, odd numbers are best with Discus.

did you get your discus?? are they ok?? fair enough about the krib but do keep a close eye!! discus get stressed VERY easily and do not recover well from trauma! good luck and post a pic of your discus if you can.

Yeh ive got them they are fine apart from a bit of fighting between the 2 new ones ive got but hopefully that'll settle. Krib hasnt shown any interest in them if anything shes a bit weary of them.

heres a pic, still have a bit of cleaning to do from the tank change its little bits of wood though not poo cant see any of my corys in this pic have like 20 of them though

Also i think i'm going to get 1 more hopefully find a white one, then i'll leave it at that
