How many babies. . .

Approximately how many babies will a first-time mother have? (Both parents are platies.) Or are there too many variables to say?

In one birth about 5-30 it all depends.

depend cause some may get ate before you notice esp if its their first batch but it wont be as many as a totally fledge fry trooper

Okay, I was just wondering because I only noticed my platy had given birth after the fry were a couple days old! I've seen six fry, and I didn't know if this number was really low. Hopefully they all make it into adulthood

Today my Platty gave birth, I counted 4 fry in the tank when I came to seperate them unfortunetly, only 2 were not eaten

Ya, it's true, it depends on many factors, and as ruffmeister said, it wont be many as 1st time parents eat a few young (as has unfortunatly happened)

Oh well, I'd rather just start out with a few so I can take extra good care of them and so the mother doesn't get stressed out as much as if she had had 30 fry

I counted 7 fry yesterday. They swim around together- it's so adorable!

First time average when I was breeding Platies [blue two tones] was 13-15.

But then again I missed like two or three all the time and then got confused on who was giving birth to who. )


Too many fishies back then [2 males, 5 females].

They'd were always pregnant around the same time.

So by the time I wished counting one batch, another was on the way.

This was my first batch ever. I got the platies as fry in June, so they were about 8 months old when they had fry of their own. Doesn't look like any of the females are pregnant again (I have three females and one male, I think) which is good because I don't have room for more fry at the moment. My lfs won't take them off my hands, so I need to keep the fry until I can find someone who would like them.

ya, the schooling fry are cute! I've got a marble molly pair and she is huge (had her for almost a year), she actually pumps out about 20 every 32 days! I've got over 40 in the tank right now!
