If it is in a cycled tank, you could add them once the dust from the gravel settles or is filtered out. A good gravel like Estes only takes an hour or so. Cheap stuff from the hardware store takes a day. That's how long mine took.
umm. What do you mean when the dust settles. Don't most of the beneficial bacteria live in the gravel. Wouldn't you need to let it sit for a good while with some ammonia added to breed bacteria in the gravel? Or will adding a cycled filter take care of everything until the gravel can fishy cycle?
I agree with tolak, practically all the good bacteria resides in the filter so it doesn't realy matter that much, but i would still add the fish gradually to be on the safe side if you can.
it is cycled but i added the last bit of gravel and i was just woundering how long it is 6:25 here now and i put in the gravel at 3:30 yesterday afternoon i used gravel form a store called lowes a hardware and outside store. should i wait longer it looks clear? im going to add my krib if i passes woops i dunno please resond fast
Why are people not actually reading this guys posts!
He has had the tank set up and it has cycled - he only wants to know how long to leave the tank after he add gravel!
I'd leave it until the dust is filtered and it is looking clearer.
the dust in the water will not hurt the fish - its just not attractive.
We set up a new tank last week - using playsand and it took a lot of filter wool and a few days to clear enough to keep me happy. but it was still murky when the fish went in.
