How long...?

Or bless him.

Update again.

Its now about a month since i THInk i had NTD.

The neon has not changed in anyway since i spotted a loss in colour and i am now thinking it is not NTD and has lost colour from a different cause.

My 10gallon which i was keeping the neon decided to brake on me today and spent hours soaking up the water etc.

I now have the trouble of making a hard decision, which is either keeping the neon in a 5gallon bucket(taking precaution still) OR put him back into my main tank.

What do you think i should do?

I have put the neon in a bag and i am floating it in the big tank at the mo so i can see it in the right light. Again i cant really tell if it has lost any more colour.

It up to you, just keep an eye on him in the tank.

update.

I added the neon to the tank this morning to get a proper look at it.

I got some pics for you to see and help me work out for once and for all if it does have NTD or not. The pics are very quick ones so ignore the quality.

What do you reckon?

Does anyone have an opinion at all because i really need to be certain?

As you can see from the pics it does have an area of missing colour. It does not look very healthy compared to the other neons.

I have moved the neon back to the 5gallon bucket for the time being.

That's how it's start i'm afraid NTD, them it gradually loses all the colour in the red area, i would take him out of the tank, don't want him dieing in there, it might be best if you have no where to put him to end his life, sorry.

Thanks for your reply Wilder and throughout this whole NTD problem.

I guess i will put it down soon but i will wait to see if anyone else has an opinion on the condition of the neon but it doesnt look good.

Its taking along time to take hold though? A month and a half ish since i first noticed it.

:( :(

I had NTD that's how it started with mine, then gradually it get worse where the red goes completely pale, I had to strip the tank down throw away the sponges and start again, sorry.

Update again. The neons has become bent in shape and one eye is bigger than the other.

I am going to enuthanise it today.

Another one of my neons has lost a circle/blob of red last week when i switched over from gravel to sand. The neon which is suffering now also lost its colour when i had to move the tank. Could it be the high stress of moving that triggers the beggining of the disease?

Should i take this one out aswell?

Any form of stress will affect the fishes ability to defend itself against attack, bacterial or parasitic included. The immune system becomes depressed. If the fish had sporozoans in it but was in good conditions and stress free, it's own immune system could have been keeping them in check. The added stress might have been just enough to tip the balance in favour of the parasites.

I suspect this one will go the same way as the other. Sad.

I was expecting to hear that :(

I wont euthanise the new one today as i would like it to live for some time yet as the neon which will be euthanised today has survived 2+ months

Here are some pics of the dead fish.

Is NTD the cause? Notice how all the red has faded and bent back.

I would say so. The kinked spine is a classic symptom.

Thanks for the confirmation LL.

Is there any medications to kill the potential NTD causing bacteria effectively?
