I'm going to be gone for 7 or 8 days, and I was wondering if It's ok to not feed my fish for that long or if I need to get someone to feed them.

it would definatly be best to get some one to feed them but...i think u can last that long...i heard that u shouldnt turn on the light at that time

most people I know just use the little pyramid thingos. I've never needed them because I NEVER GO ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!

yeah you can get a 7 day pyramid holiday feeder which will do em.. I use 2 in my community tank if you read the back of the packets it tells you how many fish it can feed :D

i'd get an auto feeder thing those holiday feeders aren'y good they have little or no nutritional value it's like eating flavoured cardboard.

and b4 u go do a water change, feed and a water test. and u should have a friend cheak on them (mostly equipement) while ur away. ur fish can survive for 14 days and any alggee eater will be fine eating the algee on ur tank.

IMO holiday feeders are not a good thing. They contain a lot of something that isn't food (can't remember what right now) to 'bulk it up'. Also, they are usually only accessable to the bottom feeders.

I think it would be best to either not feed the fish or get someone to feed them once over the time. You could put the amount of food into a little cup or something to ensure they are not overfed.

The lights and filters should run as normal when you are away, maybe get a timer for the lights. Always a very useful thing.

HTH :)

some (if not most) holiday blocks contain plaster (which appart from not being food can gunk up your filters) but tetra make both cold and tropical food sticks that dont have plaster, however i heard that my gf's neighbour went on holiday came back and found the food stick going bad.

i prefer the more expensive but ever;asting clockwork feeders with lil' sections for the right amount food and at a certain time they just drop it into the water.

I understood that it was better to leave them (for up to 2 weeks) than risk someone overfeeding and poisoning the tank. If you do get someone to feed them measure it out and HIDE THE REST. The right amount of food never looks enough and I wouldn't risk them wanting to top them up...

I agree, I'd do that over an automatic feeder.
