Hi

My guppy looks very pregnant, and is really round. She has been staying away from the fish and is staying in one part of the tank at the bottom next to some plants. My question is how long will it be before she gives birth, i know its difficult to say without a picture i have some good photos but cannot load them on here as they are too big so if you have any tips on how to load them please?

Thanks

upload them to photobucket and then resize them using photobucket

Photobucket works great for that. My pictures start at between 4 and 5 megabytes and 3500 pixels wide. I first reduce them using the photo editor on my PC and save the copy with a new file name so that I still have the detailed original. Then I send them to photobucket for 2 reasons. I use other forums and don't want to have to upload them 5 times and each forum has its own size limits but all of them accept a link to photobucket.

The guppy sounds like she is within a day or two by your description but what you see and what I would see watching the same female might be very different.

I have been unable to upload the photos...

But will give you an update, my guppy is happily swimming around yesterday but last night she was behaving very oddly as she was stationary at the surface of the water and doing a sort of shaking, but this morning she is happily swimming around again.. so maybe she has a while to go yet, Her black spot is very visable now.

Thanks

I find the gravid spot color to be almost meaningless. The shape of the female's belly is really your best indicator, not the size. As viewed from the side, the belly will take on a very square shape where there is a distinct drop down right behind the gills and a flat bottom then a sharp slope up right in front of the anus. That shape is fairly consistent in Poeciliids that are near to a drop of fry.

Hi thanks for your reply I would love to see it happening so need to keep and eye out.

I never resize my pics from photobucket...doesn't photobucket do that for you?

I can resize in photo bucket but have no clue how to then download onto here. :/

When you click on a picture in photobucket, underneath you will see a box that says 'image link code'. The very last code will say 'IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards'. Copy that and paste it into the reply field and you are good to go.
