My friend tank sprung a leak 2 weeks ago, he is giving up the idea of fish keeping now totally (no space in the house) last night the seal on the bottom glass give totally and he phoned me. He sold me everything he had, not to much but he also needed the money

Now I have:
2 very large Kuli Loaches 4"
1 Channel catfish 8"
1 Silver/Bala shark 5"
2 Rosy barbs 2" /or less
1 huge black widow 2.5"
1 Tiger barb ( might be food soon )
1 glow light tetra 1"or less
1 Horse face 4"
1 Red tail shark 2"
3 Cory's huge 3" if not more
1 unknown tetra 2" (no color might see tonight)
2 plecos 4" other one might be a little more
+- 20 molly’s

the tank is a 20G quarantine tank that was running for 2 weeks now with lots of gravel and rock and all the plastic plant I could find to give the fish some cover

I don’t have a bigger, open tank now for then but the 20G would these fish make it for 4 to 5 day's???

What can I do to ensure there survival,

I have fed about 30+ mollies to my Clown knife's last night and the only rainbow fish made a jump and was dried this morning.
Some of the fish is about 6 years old and huge in size, I would really like to keep then alive for the 4/5 days.

I am looking at fixing the bottom of the old tank but might not be ready before next week, I need a new bottom glass, the I still need to remove the broken one reseal and let to dry, work, sleep, The tank also doesn’t fit in my car so I need to wait till Sunday to borrow my Dads bakkie. The LFS delivers and I can have a new 55g on Saturday, but no matter what option I choose I will have to put all these fish in a new uncycled tank.

wOw

That is some sitaution your are in silly me!!

Other than the oh so useful advice given above ( -_- )...

Feed as little as possible and remove any uneaten food so as to prevent too much waste. Do you know anyone else with a fish tank that could house the more delicate species for a while til you get the new tank up and running? Can you get filter media and gravel from anyone with a healthy tank, maybe the lfs? This could be used to really help the cycle along.

Do you have your mates filter that was running in the broken tank?

Do you have anything that's big enough to house some of the fish for a shirt time? Like sizeable tubs etc? Could you get a fermentation bucket? They hold about 5 gallons. You could put the cories, the kuhlis and the horse face (loach?) in and try to give them some cover. Then maybe some smaller top dwelling fish in too.

Just want to say that you should be prepared for some losses and if it does happen it will not be you fault.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Thats going to be one hell of a bio load but if your willing to change 50% of the water every 12 hours you can probably keep them alive for a week until bigger quarters can be arranged. Dont feed the fish at all in this time as the fish will be creating ammonia just by breathing let alone pooing too. As said if you have the filter to the old tank then run this on your 20 as well as the existing filter, the more filtration you can get going the better in cases like this. You may also want to consider taking the channel cat back to a lfs, these cats can get to over 2 feet easily and will at some point eat everything else in its tank.

Good luck with it, its not a situation id want to be in!

the channel catfish ate 2 mollys last night, maybe a blessing in someone's eyes,

I might add the channel catfish with the clown knifes.

I was also thinking of selling most of them, can't see myself waiting for most to die.

thanks , I'll let you know what happend, wish me luck

you've had some good advise all ican say is good luck your going to need it

I have sold the almost everthing.I cant wait for sunday anymore. I have lost nothing more, and the tank still seems clean, I kept
1 pleco
3 Corry's
1 black widow
3 Molly's 1male 2females
the rest I sold for R50 thats about $6 or less that 3 pounds

There was also only 15 Molly's left when I net them all out, but the channel catfish was so fat it was swimming skew, so I think I know that happend to the molly's
