So I've been trying to spawn my bettas (click Right Here for spawnlog)

I was so excited to see a few bubbles in the cup yesterday...Day5, but there isn't any more today. :/

How long should I wait before considering this spawn attempt over? I feel bad leaving Exxon in such a small space for too long.

Should I try a water change? Sometimes this prompts instant bubblenesting. :dunno:

Help!!!

Patience, patience,patience :p

I'm gathering that exxon is the female....is she still in a vase or something? You can go ahead and put her back in her tank if he's really being that difficult.

There's all sorts of things you can try, a water change works. Showing him another male often works, adding bubbles from anothers nest works, putting him in a jar for a day or so and then putting him back in the spawn tank works (mess with his little mind,ya know), seperate them for a few days sometimes works. Or just leave them be and wait.
Releasing the female and just letting them do their thing is also good. Sometimes they don't spawn until they've been together for a few days. As long as she has enough cover to hide she will be fine. He won't hunt her down to kill her or anything. Also feed them often up until they spawn. Especially if they're swimming around together, sometimes "eating together" is a mood maker.

Are you using any sort of water conditioners like black water?

Thank you so much for the advice!!! :D

I was going to buy blackwater extract, but I have to drive for an hour to get to a store that doesn't charge $8 for a tiny bottle! (If you think that'll help, I will jump in the car right now!)

Okay, perhaps they should be separated for a while. Or maybe they should be together more?? So many decisions!

Alright I'll give it more time. I just didn't want to be un realistic, ya know?

THank You again!

I think the blackwater will help, BUT I prefer Amazon Rain, made by Tropical Science, I swear by it. It's great stuff so if you can find that- grab it!

You just have to watch and judge- do you think he would be "nice" to her if you released her? If so, by all means let her out and leave them  Even if they hit and peck a little bit,it's okay. Really.
She'll hide and he'll slowly but surely work on his nest and eventually she'll come out.

I've had females waiting for days, only to come out and destroy the males nest and insist he start over. Bettas

I had to seperate my two...for I had the same issue...So I went to get the Amazon Rain product, but my lfs was sold out, so I got the Black Water Extract...I have only had him in the spawn tank for 1 day and he has already got a bubblenest (a tad small but...) so maybe take her out and get some Amazon rain or black water and put some in there? But I know nothing haha so just my two cents.....good luck :)

(And thanks wuv for the black water advice!)
