How Long Does It Take A Betta Fish To Die Of Starvation

I'm in NO way being cruel, but Ive only seen my Betta eat ONCE in these passd 3 weeks I've had him. SO now Idk if he's actually eating when I dont see and has survived this long, or whaa?
Tank temp is 75-78, with filter.
5USgallons and I feed him pallets. ...or try to anyway.

Try him on some bloodworm, they can't resist it.. but this should only be a treat, not a staple. Is his tummy caved in or abnormally flat? A well fed tummy should bulge out a bit. Many tropical fish can do fine without food for two weeks or so, but some will also eat only when no humans are present.

welcome to the forum

as suggested try something different to pellets, I wouldn;t have though betta were big pelllets eater. I would have tried frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms and get him settled and use flake as well as your staple diet

Bettas are no different from any other fish in terms of how they look when hungry. The photo is good, but could you get one where the ventrals (the two pointy fins on the front bottom which are red at the top with blue points) are down, so not covering the tummy?

Yes, fish will happily eat old good. In fact, some won't eat dry foods until they're well soaked through.

I kept feeding him, but he's jzt not eating. His fins have gotten way worse. I tried changing his water regularly and filtering it [with given betta conditioner] and the poor little buddy did not get better. Itzz been like 3 days that I have seen him at his worst... He's dying, u could tell. SO Ive put him in a smaller container so he wont have trouble swimming up for air. I'M SO SADDD!!! My fish is dying!! =/.

When you water change, do you use a dechlorinator? What exactly is this Betta conditioner?

How long have you had him and how old is he?

I have no idea on the age. I bought him at pet co, so I am not aware of how old he is. Ive had him for about 3 weeks. Ever since I bought him, he had his anal fins like that. Then it spread to the rest of the other fin tips. To condition the water I put Kent Marine Betta Bowl Essential. "Makes tap water safe & Neutralizes Chlorine" Ever since I bought him, I never saw him eat. ...EVER! Now it looks like he is semi-flaring. Looks like he's [idk what u call the things he spuffs up when flaring] are swollen.

I'm really sorry to hear about your betta.. Ive always had a bad expirence with fish from petco too. I bought a few guppie once and they all died the next day. Then I got some from a different store and they survived.. I dont know what they do to their fish :\

Get your water tested. Sometimes damaged fins could be caused by fin rott. Petco will probably test your water for you for free. I know petsmart does though for a fact if you have one around where you live.

The fish tank water. That way they can do the tests for ph and everything. You can tell them whats going on and they should be able to tell you what kinds of meds you may be able to give your betta to increase the chances of getting better. It sometimes helps to take a recent photo of your betta with you or take the betta himself although that would put more stress on him. That way they can see exactly whats going on. If they dont know I would really suggest going to another petstore around there and asking. One of them should know.

..bells ringing of high ammonia readings over here.. let us know the exact results when you get water tested, that is, the exact numbers. "Water is ok" is not good enough.

Also get some frozen or live bloodworm.. he might go for that..
