How Long Before You Decide A Missing Fish Is Dead?

I'm curious about how long after a fish has been missing do you decide it's dead?

Obviously it depends on the fish - with some fish if you don't see it for a day you decide its dead but others it's a lot longer

I put a small Chaca Chaca in my tank a couple of months ago and have only seen it once since so I am beginning to think it has gone to fishy heaven

Having said that when I introduced my watchman Goby I didn't see it for 3 months so there is still hope

i give it about 1 week then i look for them, if i dont find them then on the second week i say its gone. ive still got to be proven right... they always show up on day 12 or 13 oh well its better there okay.

I've had same problem with banjos in the past just realise they ain't there one day and no idea where they have gone

I lost a swordtail, so now I should wait a week? I have ruffled the plants and it wont come out (if its alive)
