How Large Would My Tank Have To Be?

sorry if you're getting fed up with all my new tank suggestions. i just can't sit still!

How big a tank would i need to have a pair of Texans (without the intention of breeding), a hand full of convicts and maybe a BN plec or two?

And would my convicts breed if in a group, or would they need to be on their own (as a pair)

I'd want at least 5×2×2ft for a Texax cichlid, but I probably would only keep one if I had a 6×2.5×2.5ft. I think they have quite a bad temperament so might not work with convicts because convicts are much smaller.. but maybe a female or two might.. I am not up-to-date on my large fish so someone else might be able to advise better about compatibility.

A pair of texans without the intention of breeding indicates two of the same sex, and they will tend to be pretty aggressive towards each other, so you'd need a pretty immense tank to enable them to get along sweetly.

For one tex, a group of convicts and a few BNs a 130 gallon (5x2x2) would be fine. Would need a few hiding places for the cons to escape the tex when need be though. Many folks would certainly cram them into a smaller tank, but for me a 5x2x2 would be about a minimum that I would be happy with.

2 male texas will fight they do better in a larger group and the only way to do that is get them small and let them grow up together and remove the females once they get to breeding age. Texas are very aggressive but can live with other fish, convicts are a good tankmate with texas but I would recommend you only have male cons not a pair, as once the cons start to spawn the texas will start to get aggitated and agressive.

Even though Texans are 3x the size of Convicts, a pair protecting eggs will whoop a big bull Texans. I'd Say get one Texan with 2-3 Male Cons, but BNs are too small to deal with a texan. They would attempt to eat a BN.

Would have to disagree with this , having seen an absolute beast of a male texas cichlid, I would say he could hold his own against a pair of cons. Don't get me wrong cons are tough little fish, but texans are tough big fish.

With regards to the tank size, as already stated you would either have to get 2 females or have a single texas for the best chance of success. 2 Males just wont work and theres a chance of having a breeding pair if you get 1 of each. A 75 gallon should do for 1 texas and 1 convict, a 125 would do for a texas and some cons.
