well im doing it any way so maybe a pointless question but i went to get some salt and Ro water from the lfs today and a friend there basically told me not to bother with marine its very expensive and huge amount of work. I was a bit taken back by how much he disliked marine lol but i think its worth the effort am I right here but if water changes are regular and you take care and re search every little thing you do then am I right in thinking that I should be ok?

Marine is deffinately a little different compared with FW. I think it deffinately gets a bad rap. Alot of people fail because they dont know what they introduce to the aquarium, or get off on the wrong foot. Youve got the right idea, research is the key to a healthy tank. :good: It is dearer, but most Nanos run skimmerless and sump/refugium-less, so arnt as bigger expense as a traditional reef. Diligence is required (making sure things are looking OK daily), and that too will help you keep a sucessful tank, but marine Nano tanks are the same, if not less work than FW systems.

my favoriteever saying is someone comparing freshwater with marine by saying "its like saying you like apples because you like oranges" they have the same type of ideas (keeping fish but are completely different. also with marine there is always something happening whereas freshwater can be sometimes dull in comparison :good: anyway on the note of cost ive just set up a 90 litre (bought everything new) and its probably cost £450 and thats only with 5kg of live rock in need 4kg more. Then if you think of fish + corals you could tip the scales to probably almost £600 when you are finished stocking. Also remeber you will have constant costs i.e food, salt, RO water and so on with the occasional test kitr refil here and there. So it definately costs more but is very rewarding so get saving :hyper:

yeah thanks guys I feel alot more confident now ;) i knew that he wasnt 100% right from talking to people who haveor have looked after reefs before cheers james
