store for that matter.

Mine is a huge rip off. I am sure yall have herd me complaining about the Tanganyikan cichlid prices. $14-16 for julies depending on what kind. $20 for a multie.

Well they have some new lows! They used to have angels for cheap. 3 inches for 6.99 etc. Well now they really jacked up that price to 27.99 for the 3 incher, calling it extra large. Ha!

And then they had a "pair" of gouramis for 27.99 as well. Its reduclous! 3 inch plecos are 15.99. etc.

mine is great!they dont rip you off and have loads of great offers like 10 platys for £5.50 which i think is great.Discus are £12 and they have saltwater tanks and if a fish looks sick or is beting pickedon it is put into quarentine. They take back any fish nomatter what the reason you dont want it and if it dies within 2 weeks of purchase you get full refund,They also sell fry for about 20p for 50!I have never seen a dead fish in there tanks and the staff(theres only 2)whch are a husband and wife team are the friendlyest and most knowledgeble fish people i o apart from you guys! Thanks for listning to my long ramble!

Thanks for offering the other extreme!!

It's always easy to find faults in anyone/thing. There is no one "perfect' lfs near me but there are several to chose from. One has great prices and will custom order for me, another has high prices but excellant fish care (I dont mind paying extra to support those who put in extra care), another has tons of plants with a very knowledgable plant expert (and she's cute too :p ), another has an amazing selection, and a fifth is my final fall back... they have EVERYTHING (but are expensive and less personable with customers as well as their fish).

I could spend hours complaining about each of them, or I could brag that I have everything one could want out of a fish store... I just have to bounce between four or five stores to get it :p

I think a lot of places are overpriced. I just bought a little castle for my tank and it cost $20!!! It was in the wrong spot, the only reason I bought it was because I thought it was $5. But I guess in there defense... us fish lovers continue to buy the over priced things.... so they keep jacking the price up!

One of the LFS around here had an albino pleco I was interested in - it was like, three inches long and it was $45.00. I can get one for only $5.00 at the out-of-the-way LFS. Other than that, I think mine is pretty good... although they won't ever let you buy guppies in trios... :X

on the other hand there is a one near my great LFS and i dont think ive ever seen a tank WITHOUT dead fish andthe fish are 2wice the price,i wouldnt even buy fish food from there...

Here in Phoenix we have a store called the Ocean Floor. They are very knowledgeable and have a wide selection of fish and product. However, their prices are very high on all their merchandise. For good prices we have to use petsmart.

There is only one place that rips my dad and I off :)
Chain loaches: $15 each (They need to be kept in groups!)
Mogurnda gobies: $30 each!
Plecos: Even commons, are usually $15 or above
Tetras: Usually above $4 each

And as luck has it, they have the best selection of fish, but with the most ridiculous prices!

well i will add something i needed water conditioner really bad and i thought i know i will go here [simple DIY store] ah a nice 250ml bottle of Tetra AquaSafe just about to pick it up [thought lets see how much] £10-49 they wanted for it!!!!

I placed the bottle back on the shelf as you can imgain whey over my budget!!!

I can get it somewhere else 50% less!!!!!!

Made do with King British Safe Guard instead!! mind that was £3-49 for a 100ml bottle....

But my sawdust was on offer for the rodents!!! £2-49 instead of usual £3-49 for a big pack [Economy size]

So my personal opinion is shop around or shop online. Every Little helps don't it?

when i bought my pair of gouramis the fish fool got me the ten dollar a piece fancy dwarf gouramis instead of the 5 dollar a piece opaline gouramis' i asked him for. It was only when i got home, posted pics, and was told otherwise by forum members that i found out they wrent what i had asked for. =] Thats one example but my lfs sucks ;)

I know where to buy my fish at resonable prices usually my LFS rather than those big stores such as Maiden Head Aquatic's etc... I like to support my LFS as they are suffering @ the moment coz everyone goes to the big department stores....

There fish are priced reasonably i.e 10 danios for £4-50 which i had off them not so long ago. They do occasionally get unusal fish and have regular sales on fish and products.

I have my own list of good and realible sources. It pays to shop around.

The not so LFS is pretty good. Not the cheapest, prices are about average, but they do a really good selection, are very helpful, do free water tests, yet only devote half their shop to fish! The other half is reptiles, frogs and spiders. Mee... Want... snakeys...
