Exactly, some sites claim that there is a way, however this is a lie. You cannot truly tell the sex of an angelfish until spawning unless you'd like to do an obtobsie (cut open the fish) and find out if it has testies.

yack, no thanks, ill wait till i see them laying eggs lol. i read that males have an arched nose and the females had a dip in theirs. they've already layed eggs once before and now the one with the arched nose (the one we thought was a male, but we may have been fed false info lol) has a lump in its stomach, maybe eggs, do you think?

look at the papilla. males have a more pointed one while females have slightly bigger and rounded ones. these however are visible only near breeding
