I got some java moss but it doesnt stay where i want it too. teh fish and snails drag it around.

How do you use it?

Also I was reading thru and I have carbon filter on my eclipse system with live plants. Is teher a different filter I can get and what exactly are the nutrients that a carbon filter would be taking away from my plants?

Simply put a small stone on the java to keep it in place or tie it to a rock or piece of drift wood.

as for you filter you can simply use filter floss or a sponge filter..

I don't know what the connection is between plants and carbon

I hope this is some sort of help to you

Well, I just took and exacto knife and cut a little slit in the bottom black part of the cartridge, emptied out all the carbon, and then took some fine filter floss and piled it on top of the cartridge and under the intake. This seems to be working pretty well, it's really only mechanical and biological (because the biowheel) filtration. Fine with me!
OH! About the carbon, the carbon will remove the nutrients and elements that plants need. That's why people don't like it in their planted tanks!

I removed the carbon.

Next time when I am at store Ill get some stuff.

Is that filter floss that white fluffy stuff.

Wonder if I could use a regular house sponge?

hmmm

Does anyone know of a good online canadian fish store for supplies?

http://www.bigalsonline.ca/ is where I do all my online shopping and they have free S&H for orders over $30 before tax. If you find a better price elsewhere, they'll beat it by 5%.

If you join their VIP program, which is free, you can get points when you buy them. From Wed to Thursday, they offer double points. 1 point = 1 dollar and you can use the points to get stuff from them. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Also, do a forum search for Canadian retailers or Canadian shops or something like that. Key word, Canada, and you'll find a thread with a few shops...

Thanks alot.

They also had teh 25 watt heater I wanted so i placed an order. Got some sponge, floss and the heater and from my other places I looked saved like 11 bucks so good deal. probably could have gotten floss and sponge cheaper but i am lazy ehehe.

i bought a HUGE bage of white filter floss from the LFS a year ago. the bag was 2 foot long and meant for pond filters. i just cut a bit to size every time i need some.

cost about £3.50

I think a household sponge would work AS LONG as it was not cellulose. If it rots, it's cellulose. The synthetic open-cell sponges are fine - I use them.
