Hey all.
I have just re-built a gorgeous tank. Polished woodwork and looking very nice.........BUT
Its got lots of scratches on the glass. I heard of some little tricks to get it out but i can't remember them.
Please Help.

Probably best off getting some Glass polish. Like Brasso but for glass, obviously. Not sure if brasso would work though? The grit particles might be too course?

Well there is a product in Australia called Glass Re-Do which when you go over a tank it fills in the scratches and leaves the tank like new...I'm sure there are similar products else where :D

As far as I know, you can find some chems that will polish out very light scratches but if you run your finger over the scratch and you can feel it, its probably too deep and needs to be buffed out with a machine.

Silly question but...scratches on the inside or the outside? I can't help you either way except to state the obvious and say if it's on the inside be very careful with any substances you use.

If the scratches are outside then use Jewellers rouge.....you can get this from a friendly Jeweller....its what they use on watch glasses ect....if its inside beware of any chemicals if you have fish in there......

Ifs its inside and outside you probably need to buff the glass. Any chemical treatment would probably kill the fish and would just dissolve in the water anyways and not fix the scratchs.

before doing any chemical treatments try filling the tank with water. Most scratches look much worse when the tank is dry but when filled the seem to go away... Give it a shot and let us know how it turns out

Good luck! :D

I'd get a new tank and keep the old one for a hospital tank - it's not the glass bit that costs the money. Alternatively, you could make one of those nice ply wood tanks everyone was talking about on the DIY forum.

No Way! Not after all the hours i've spent on this tank!
Buff the Glass...How? Explain?

theres a thing u can get for cd's

looks like a snails shell

u turn a handle n these pads spin round n scuff the surface of the cd to polish out the scratch

maybe 1 of these would work

Tek :fish:

p.s. they only cheap too ....about £10

If the scratches aren,t too deep you can rub them out with toothpaste. If you use a buffer with glass polish keep in mind if the glass gets too hot from buffing it can explode.
