How do you get good pictures with a digital camera

I have a nice little digital camera. TI is a Konica that is 5MEGAPIXELS. It takes a lot of great photos and can take really nice macro photos. However it has a flash that is overly strong.

My questions is this. I see lots and lots of really nice photos on different boards but I have no idea how people get the pictures to come out so nice. Is it a function of the camera the person the settings the lighting???

Every time I take pictures I get the flash causing reflections off the glass or off the back of the tank and it messes the picture all up. IF I turen the flash off it does not seem to work well cause it is not bright enough or I still get funny reflections off the front of the glass.

How do you guys and girls do it?

I am no expert, but i try with light in room off and no flash on, and also i try not to point the camera straight at the fish tank, like i take it at an angle either from the side or tilt the camera slighty down or up.

Hope this helps.

Good luck with your photos ;)

you get good results when the room is dark and the tank is still lit up then you can turn the flash off and shouldn't need to worry about reflections.

i put mine on closeups mode and then shoot away. other times if i have more time/ battery i fiddle with the more refined settings although my camera doesn#t have too many.

a bit of paper over the flash, still lets it through but without the glare.

This combined with macro mode and taking from the correct angle.

Also, don't know if you noticed but there's a stickied thread at the top of this forum. It contains some extremely useful tips on getting the best shots whichever camera you use.

Whilst having a decent camera means you are more likely to get great results often, some amazing photographs have been taken with a cheap-and-cheerful which just happened to be in the right spot at the right time.

I use a freeware application to sharpen the pictures that came out OK. I have a batting average of 3% out of all the pictures I take. :)
