How Do U Keep A Cucumber Down?

Lead is toxic. It's why it no longer is used in almost anything. It used to be in all kinds of things but lead toxicity has proven to be quite dangerous. Even the small amounts used in an aquarium for weights can build up to become dangerous to your fish and you.

Small plant lead, in for 24 hours, once or twice a week, weekly water change.......hey lets not get paranoid about lead poisoning people!

i have a black molly and two balloon mollies and they were checking the cucumber out because its the first time i put it in, anyway yer black mollies do eat cucumber and also plants.

I use a metal bbq skewer with a piece of fishing line tied to the looped end, so I don't have to put my hand in the tank to take it back out.

I'm a plumber and contrary to popular belief lead is still widely used in many applications, it isn't used anymore for carrying drinking water as the build up over a long time time can be considered dangerous as you quite rightly point out but lead in it's solid form will present a very low hazard to health it's generally considered dangerous when it's in a powder form or if you ingest it, smelt it etc
Insure you wash your hands after touching lead but other than that I wouldn't worry about any ill effect from handling solid lead in such small amounts

You guys never cease to amaze me with your ideas... The BBQ skewer Idea is genius!

LoL Thanks

My husband has a real "thing" about me putting my hand in my tank, germs and stuff! So I came up with the skewer idea.

Further to that idea, I put a piece at the top (for the molly and gourami) and a piece at the bottom (for the BN Catfish), works a treat, and no wet arm!!!

I always find "better safe than sorry" works. While lead may still be used in many applications, it is not used in those where it can be ingested or passed on in a way it can be ingested. I also would want to avoid the build up in my aquarium to harm my fish. Some species of fish can live for decades and I would not want to expose them to lead even at "safe" low levels for such a period of time.

Hello, i use a wooden kebab skewer to hold mine down. The type you can buy for bbq's. the bit of cucumber i have for them to eat.....i cut it in half and put the skewer through it and push the end that goes through......into the gravel at bottom of tank. I have been feeding them that way for years. Cheap and easy to use!
