Between Male and female?!?

The one i have currently is on its own and i want to add more fish but obviously avoid adding a male.

The temporary tank i have just now is quite small but want a little companion for the betta i have just now.

He or she is very blue and has , what i would say, long fins.

any suggestions?

If you say it has long fins then it will be a male, a female has rather shorter fins than the male. A male has long rippling fins and is beutiful. I'm not saying the female is not beutiful though :)

Hope that helps :good:

well yeh he, i now presume, has long fins. So i am going to buy a fish today, the tank is fairly small so can you recommend a friend for him?

Most male bettas will not take kindly to anyone sharing the tank with them. How many gallons does the tank hold? Some ppl have ADF's with their bettas or snails. Some have some types of shrimp, although I tried this with one of my boys and he ate them.

it is currently only a small tank.
So, would it be unwise to mix one female betta with one male betta?

Very unwise doesn't even come close I'm afraid. He would kill her unless she was willing to spawn, and even then he would kill her after if she couldn't leave his territory. Sorry.

If the tank is that small, I wouldn't even consider putting something else in there with the betta. Bettas don't mind being alone, and from what I see, they actually prefer having their own space, but if he looks lonely and/or bored, you can set up a mirror next to his tank for a little while each day so he can see and flare at his reflection.

i have expiremented a little today, i went out today and boght some Rosboras. I put them in with the betta and i was surprised. There was no trouble, as i watched for about 30 minutes. They seemed a bit agitated, swimming about fast but Gill (The Betta) seems relaxed and unbothered, so far.

I must admit, i am raging! I bought this small tank and after going back to day i seen another tank 3 times the size for an extra 5 pounds!!!!

Grrrrr.

I will wait till next week!

If you're adding a group of Rasboras, I hope your tank is atleast 10 gallons :/.... Bettas need their own space, especially the males. It is also very unhealthy for the water quality to have less than 2 gallons per fish.

Yeah keep bettas on his own space...I always been afraid of those guys that are new to with bettas and they wana put them with other fisher..I have a friend that he think he know about bettas and he is a F****** stupit he have a big tank of 55 gallons and he put 3 males and 2 females in there i was so pisses bec i told him to keep the males on small tank and leave the females in the 55 gallons he won't listento me and said is k JAJAJAJA i said KK LOL he wake up next day the males fighted and they were totally with the two lines out and his tail all gone than he call me man you was right LOL but well we always try to help .... Females have an ovipositor, which looks like a white speck of sugar on their undersides. Males don't have it.

With females coming in such beautiful colors now, and w/ plakat males being bred, sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a male and female.

He has a big 55 gallon tank and he put 3 males and 2 females in there and I was so pissed because I told him to keep the males in a small tank and leave the females in the 55gallons and he wouldn't listen to me and said it was ok HAHAHAHA I said OK LOL He woke up the next day and the males fought and they had their stress lines out and one of the betta's tails was gone and he called me "Man, you were right" LOL but well, we always try to help...
