How do I make them click?

Well, thanks for all the many responses and varied clicking experiences.

However my loaches have still to make even the smallest sound despite being pampered with every sort of food. Maybe I have mutes!

I've had some funny incidences with my clown loaches and there clicking noise. :D My clown loaches made that sound whenever eating algae wafers, however they don't eat them much anymore.

Recently my clown loaches made a loud 'click', so loud that it was more like a 'bang'. It sounded like it was hitting the glass but I'm no sure. Nevertheless my dog got a fright out of it and sped under the couch.

i have two both about inch and half had them about a month heard the clicking a couple of days ago eating sinking pellets both very active swim around with my tiger barbs alot

Mine click whenever they're exited. If they're eating, they click. If they're fighting, they click some more. I get it all the time. :D

Mine have recently figured out how to eat flake food floating at the top (great, my guppies will never eat again :p ), so now they can click right at the surface with their mouths out of the water! It's deafening!

I have 3 Clown Loaches, it took them 6weeks or so before I heard the clicking noises. During this time they were very reserved and shy. Now they are boisterous and very noisy with their clicking during feeding time.

I would guess the clicking is used for stunning prey - similiar to Dolphins.

I am SO JEALOUS! I guess I'll just have to be patient (light a candle etc!)

mine only click when they eat, but they click a lot then. i once dangled my finger in the water at feeding time and they have quite strong bites. i haven't read any articles about the clicking but from my experience it's made when they do a hard bite

Mine click mostly with Algae wafers and courgette, I've got 3 who are about 4 1/2 inches and one new boy who is about 7 inches!
I got a vid of them eating and clicking; you can see it here

That’s exactly why they're not making the clicking sound -- they're not hungry enough!

try feeding them twice a day, and in a few days when they feel hungry they will start clicking as soon as you give them a food which they really like... the "click guarantee" food for my 3 clown loaches are spirulina pallets.

Well, I recently added 3 botia striata and I've heard these guys click when 2 of them were attacking an algae wafer! Maybe my clowns will get the hint?

Also I have found that they have a definate preference for round snails not the long spiral shaped snails.

I investigated on the web and apparently the long ones are Malaysian something or other snails - they have harder shells and also a sort of "locking device" like a door which they can close so it's difficult for fish to get to the goods!

I know they're harder - I've been cracking them with pliers for my loaches, the little round snails I can crush by hand! Are these fish pampered or what?
