well i need to make a sump to fit a jewel rio 400 that will fit in the cabinat i am a sump newby and need help also i have a v2 400 skimmer will this be ok for the tank and could i put this on the sump and use the pump supplied to push water through the skimmer and uv then return the water to the tank oh yeah and the tank has a weir

if not what pump should i use

The V2 400 would sit in the sump and would be driven by it's own supplied pump :good: The return can be fed directly into the UV unit, provided that the pump does not push more flow that the UV unit is spec'ed to take :good:

Usualy, people compartmentalise sumps. By this I mean they fit in pieces of glass to divide the tank into sections. A popular way of doing this is from tank into the first compartment that houses the skimmer, that overflows into a reforgium and/or Deep Sand Bed Filter and/or Live rock section, that then feeds into a third chamber that is the pump chamber. You want a sump of at least 20% of the tank's total volume, though 50%+ would be better.

My possible new system will feed direct into a DIY skimmer from a Calfo overflow(!st compartment), into mechanical sponges, Floss and possible chemical filters(2nd compartment), into a DSB+Reforgium (3rd Compartment) into the pump chamber (4th compartment) :good:

How you set-up the sump depends on what you want to do/achieve with the sump

All the best

I don't know much about sumps and am actually researching how to build one myself. I would look through the threds as there are some really good ones. If that doesn't work post again tomorrow evening when there are more people online and someone should be able to answer your questions.

Know its not very helpful but :p lol
