Put it this way, if you were going to be killed and had the choice of being boiled, or getting a swift hard blow to the head, which would you go with? And don't give me any "I am not a fish crap". Principle is the same.

And if you are taking the piss simply to wind people up, then give it a rest. Its not funny and one day sombody might be dumb enough to follow that advice.

I just finished a fish medicine course and we were taught that the most humane method of euthanising a fish is with an anesthetic agent, such as clove oil. The second most humane method is with carbon dioxide. If you put your fish in a small cup of aquarium water and add 3-4 tablets of Alka Seltzer, enough carbon dioxide is generated to euthanize your fish almost immediately. The third most humane method according to my class was the decapitation and brain destruction method. None of the other methods really made the list as humane methods.

if you have access to a pellet gun or a bb gun, just use that and shoot it in the head(cheap and easy just pull the trigger <1c). make sure you angle the shot at least 45 degrees before you shoot, or you might get hurt instead. if you want a straight shot, just get a 2 inch styrofoam block and shoot into that(no chance of it bouncing back at you). if you have a real gun, even better, but its a bit overkill, expensive, and it might damage you or your property very badly.

Edit: make sure you dont miss and skin its head, or its going to be all bad

i use the put fish in boiling hot water method as well. i do for a couple of reasons:

1) i can't find a store that sells clove oil and i really don't trust my chemestry skills to give a large enough dose to induce organ failure

2) i can't bring myself to cutting off the head or bashing my fish

3) the boiling water only lasts 1-2 seconds and seems like the quickest way for me to do it

* i know that it isn't the most humane way to do it, and chances are not the most painless way. but it is the best way i can do. so it is an option, though not the best one, so please don't attack black_molly3. that is the reason that this forum is starting to get a bad reputation as people constantly jump all over other peoples' decisions and/or ideas. unity is the only thing that makes this forum or any other forum work*
