HI,

I'm new to keeping fish.. please can someone help ...

I have three mollies (2 males & 1 female) and three platies... (2 females & 1 male)..

What are their best mating conditions?

thanks

Shel

They will all mate in time...trust me...you wont be able to stop them!!

That is very true, my platy got pregant and gave birth, then within 2 days of giving birth she was pregnant again. lol, These are frisky little fish!

just give em time, also they might have mated already but their fry got eaten. It takes 1 month for the fry to be born once the female's pregnant.

platies give birth 1 month after preagnancy..but if the conditions are not right they can reabsorb their fry  !i found that they mate when the waters hard and alkaline with plenty of vegetation :D

get more female mollies. the two male will fight and both will harrass the lone female

firstly, 2 males to 1 female is not the best scenario. recommended amount is 2 females per male. the females can get harassed and there is no one else to even it up so often the female will not be resceptive to the males at all.

best mating conditions are in water lol thats about it. its like sea monkeys...just add water and soon you got tiny things everywhere :)

someone did mention a water change and that may work i have just never had probs when i bred them. they just wouldnt stop lol

Strangely, when I kept Platies, I never had any sign of them being pregnant. Not a thing in 18 months. As soon as I swapped them for Swordtails, they were constantly dropping fry. No rules with fish............
