never really done it before just floated and slowly added water slowly

I have done this for my cleaner shrimp. My method was to pour the contents of the bag into a small bucket with an airstone. Grab a typical air line size hose and setup a syphon from the main tank. Purchase a screw type restrictor and attach to the syphon line and adjust it to drip a second rate. Give it 20-30 mins and that should be it. You can fish them out and pop them in the tank after that.

That's just my method tho....

sounds good but ill probs do iy for a bit longer thanks

You might want to test the water first (SG) if it is the same or very close there is no need to acclimatise at all.

It seems to me that it has got to be more stressful to the fish to be stuck in a bucket for three hours than to put it straight in to your tank, as long, of course that the sg is the same or very close. You are not going to get osmotic shock if the sg is the same - after all osmotic shock is THE reason we acclimatise!

I now ask any shop I buy from what they run their tanks at - if it is below 1.024 I don't buy from them as the acclimatisation required is far too long imo. I have two lfs that run their tanks at 1.026 ( I know I test their water ). I have yet to buy anything from someone who has lied or failed to tell me the correct sg they run their tanks at (i have tested all the water  ).

If you don't test the water how do you know how long to acclimatise for - I don't know why everyone doesn't do it!

And yes I know many lfs run their systems much lower than the above, some even at 1.015 - but I for one will not buy from them

I just take airline tubing and tied a semi tight knot towards the top. Gives a steady drip. I always do it for at least 30 min to an hour.

never ever use an airstone whilst acclimatizing to aerate the water...the fish or invert will have secreted ammonia and they will also have filled the water with CO2 from breathing...CO2 dissolved in water creates carbonic acid which lowers the PH and lowers the toxicity of ammonia. when you add the airstone the co2 gasses of causing a rapid PH rise making the ammonia more toxic.

so ill put the spare airpump i had back in the cuboerd then
