how do i covert a goldfish tank into a tropical one?

i dont wanna kill the benificial bacteria either, what should i do!!!?

You will need to buy a heater, filter, water treatment etc first of all.

Next you will need to do a 30% water change and then test the water for PH,Nitrates,Nitrites and ammonia.

Leave the tank for 2 weeks for the bacteria to grom on the filter media before adding any fish.

How big is the tank and what are you planning to keep in it??

Have you read up on tropical fish as they are alot different to goldfish!!??

Assuming you have a decent filter, all you do is add a heater. Assuming your tank is clear of ammonia and nitrite, and your nitrate levels are sensible, you can just go ahead.

Hi Akhtar :D

If your goldfish tank has normal filtration, all you will have to do is raise the temperature to +/- 78 degrees F., and find a new home for your goldfish. Everything else is pretty much the same. :)

I have a 55 gallon tank which is presently used for goldfish. Whenever I want to set up a tank, I just take gravel, water and filter media from it to put in the new tank and it is instantly ready for tropicals.

One caution, (since I don't know why you are asking this) is that they both get many of the same diseases and if your goldfish have died from something contageous, you could face the same problem with any tropicals you put in there.

My 20g used to be a goldfish tank until they all got killed off by ick(I was new to fish keeping and didn’t realise the symptoms) I didn’t medicate the tank as it was to late so I just did a normal water change the put aquarium salt in the water and left for 10 days(I think the ick parasite days in a week if it doesn’t find a host) did another water change again then put some livebearers in as they can live in brackish water, the ick never came back touch wood!

That way by using aquarium salt and letting the tank stand you don’t kill any of the beneficial bacteria.
