we have 2 tanks at work with every clown loach having different markings?, rather than just the 3 full stripes you usually see

this is spot =]

i have never really looked out for that. - but there again they get large so i have never wanted one. i guess its fairly common. probably 1 in 10-20. but you might find they are all the same in one LFS and then vary massively in another. it depends what breeder they get them from or what location in the wild etc.

Thanks for posting MewMew42

WOW ! Love the spot marked Loach that sort of spot marking is not that common.

The 3 stripe and the saddle type are the common markings in the stores I frequent. I have spent 6 months looking for obscure marked Clown Loach finding only one and he was what is thought of as a jigsaw marked clown similar to the the little guy in the second picture.

Heres an interesting article on Clown loach markings: http://www.loaches.c...king-variations

thankyou for teh quick replies =] I looked at the link also and discovered that he/she came from sumatra, which is different as ive only ever seen ones from borneo!

I might just have to get more, Spots just too cute, and at least ill be able to tell them apart!

even though they're considered "oddball" patterns, I find they're more common than the regular 3 stripe pattern.
A friend of mine brought in something like 400 small clown loaches last year, and a good 80% of them were oddballs.

This is true, you tend to see batches coming in that are either all the normal three stripe or the majority are differently patterned. It's not often that you get odd individuals in amongst normal clowns, I saw a lovely little guy in my local petsmart that had four full stripes.
A few snaps of my oddballs: -

Fantastic pictures of some great looking fish :good: Thank you for sharing.

As for the ratio of odd balls to normal 3 stripe fish I must say you are very lucky people. Up here in Surrey its almost like there churned out by a factory that only has mould working

Well Ill keep my eyes out :good:
