how can i tell

well i had a guppy and a swordtail in the same tank waiting for them to give birth. well i dont know which fish had the fry..how will i be able to tell???

I know I had sail fin molly that gave birth, a nice sice fish...my guppy had her fry too...my molly fry are larger than the guppy fry.

The guppy babies will likely be plain colored right now. The sword babies will be the color of momma most likely. HTH

well whatever they are their coloring is peachy, unlike the momma swordtail.

question:
do the swordtail store "sperm" for up to 3 broods as well as the guppies?

there is no exact number of fry a mother fish can have. the numbe depends on the size of the mom and her condision. the number of fry can range from one single fish to mabey 30 if ur talkin swordtails and guppies. my swordtail had one single fry once and that kinda pissed me off.

as for telling them apart, u rely cant until they are atleaset a week or to of age. right now they probably look lik jus a couple of eyeballs with a tail. the swords depending on the species should develope the color of the mother and father. the guppie's tails shoul increase in size and they should soon adopt a greyish colorasion to them.
