I'm looking for jars to jar my fry in when it's time. (I haven't even spawned my bettas yet, so it's no HUGE rush.) I found 18 oz jars on ebay, but I can't actually pick them up and look at them to tell how big they are. They seem small though. What size jars are recommended?

I think most people use beanie boxes, which if I remember are 1/2 gallon, so that or above will be fine unless its like HM.

Thanks! I always hear about people using beanie boxes...but what are beanie boxes and where can i get them?

forget all the expensive stuff, we used plastic slurpee cups with all our fry on many an occassion with great success. it was good for me because i was addicted to slurpees anyways (now, not so addicted). easy to clean, light weight and holds enough water for fry whose water should be changed every couple of days anyways.

I have never had to jar any fry (unfortunatly -_- ) but i have been looking into lately as well since id like to stock up for my spawn...and the other day I came across this site and saw these 64 0z. 'Display tanks' which they are using for adults...they also had juvenile betta cups...but I hated them...they looked small and weak...but the display tanks look nice...forgot to look at the dimensions...but anyways heres the link...if you come across anything else let me know! Good luck :fun:

I've been using Sterilite brand storage containers made for CDs. They're less than $2 each, stackable, come with a lid, and are nearly a gallon. I just drill a little hole at the very top on the side for air and food delivery so that I don't even have to take the lid off to feed the fry :)

wow all that seems exyremely expensive! $6 for a beanie baby box or more. And 2 dollars for the little cd holders. So pretty much spending more than 100 dollars on that. I would still try ebay lol

yes, slurpee cups are soo expensive  one more tip, any container that is square is a b*tch to clean, you will be doing a lot of water changes and wipe downs, thats why the traditional round cylindric container is best.

I clearly did not say slurpee cups were expensive. But buying in the ranges of maybe say 50 at 1.50 a slurpee. Will not be so cheap :flex:

yeah those boxes do contain fishes!
they are a great idea well done Synirr for thinking of it!

Darn product markups :sly:

Fortunately, it should be possible to avoid that. You should be able to find similar-sized plastic cups sold in large packages in whatever section of WalMart sells picnic and/or party supplies (or just look for the styrofoam cups and the plastic ones should be nearby). That, or look for packages of plastic beer cups- they're huge, and should be plenty big enough for fry, plus a lot cheaper than buying a slurpee for each fry! Just don't buy any cups that are lined with wax or other waterproofing material, because it could leech into the water and damage your fry.
