With help on here I identified my Plecs as Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus L001 now on planet catfish they say these will grow to 8 inches but others say they will grow up 18 inches, who do you believe? Is there anybody on here keeping these fish if so what size are yours? :hey:

Don't have one, but i have also read they only reach 8inches, planetcatfish.com is a very reliable catfish info source, personally i'd go with their info :) .

If you go on PlecoFanatics, they can give you a more accurate size range than Planet Catfish (which has dodgey data for a few of the larger plecs - they even say commons only reach 10" *lol*).

There's a photo of one on there that was 12", and other members mention them up to 18". :)

Cheers folks my largest plec is there or about the 8 inches mentioned on planet catfish so I’ll let you know whether he continues to grow, it's not a problem if it does as they'll both be moving to 72" 24" 24" fairly soon it just means less fish for that tank  which is bit of a downer

KathyM funny enough it was your reply on someone’s post that got me thinking about all this & possibly threw the spanner in works of my tank planning ;)

Oh I'm sorry

Just recently had to rehome a chocolate albino liposarcus pardalis, because he was sold to me as hypostomus supposedly only growing to 12" and I didn't know better. He was my 7 year old daughter's pride and joy, but unfortunately until we find a new house we don't have room for a macca tank, so we had to rehome him before he became monster sized. I'm sure some people think I'm quite sad for getting attached to fish (and every other animal in our home including the GALS), but now I think it's best to be prepared.

I'm really sorry if I've not helped.

Na no worries all info is good info :good: plus if they look like they’re getting really big I’ll be able to justify getting an 8 foot tank instead :kana: (at the cost of the bed in the spare room).

Nothing sad about caring about the animals we have I’ve always kept pets & would be at a complete loss if I had to give any of them up.
Like you I was mis-sold these plecs by the lfs who sold us our first 91 litre tank when I first realized they’ll grow big my first reaction was panic but I soon fell for their character so now we’ve gone from the one small tank in the corner to having 3 tanks & a 4th on the way to keep up with the plecs growth.
:S
