Hi!

I have one question, how big filter for my 50-55 ( around 200l ) gallon tank.

Since it is overstocked with:

-12 cardinal tetras
-6 Angel fish
-6 Cory sterbai
-3 Siamese algae eater

I was thinking about Eheim 2217 classic or to try new one professional 4+ 600.

I heard that this new one are much more quiet then the old one. Since I sleep in the same room, which one is better to take from your experience.

Since I have lot of plants, is this big canister are going to make to much movements inside a tank, and is that a think to be worried about.

Thank you in advance.

couldn't recommend these more highly. Virtually silent, easy to maintain, excellent build quality and very cheap to run

also ... have the angels grown up with the cardinals? It's well known that in the wild angels prey on neon tetra's for food. If you see the cardinal numbers deminishing it's time to move them away from your angels.

There is evidence though that when angels and small fish grow up together they see them as family rather than 'food'. My angel pair are in with harlequins but the harlequins were then when the angels were added as babies and so the angels leave them alone but I wouldn't dare add any new small fish now

I run two Ehiem Ecco Pros 2036s I believe (bought with tank, secondhand) on my 180L, I like this option as I maintain the filters in rotation which prevents any potential issues (hopefully) with crashes following filter cleaning. Of course, they are always cleaned correctly with water from the aquarium etc. Find them to be excellent filters and very quiet. I have had other filters, yet would choose Ehiem again over others I think. Not tried the JBL one recommended above though.

Yes tetras grow up together with angelfish, and I did not have any problems, hope not have in the future. Thanks for tip on JBL, i did not have any experience with them

I have atman 3337, Chinese version of eheim pro 2224, with weaker flow but more filter volume. I had in past eheim classic 2213 om my old 80 liters tank but it was little bit noisy, but there were no doors on old cabinet. But filter was excellent.

That is why I asked classic or the new models. I have heard that new models are much quieter then the old one.

In my journal you will see I talk about the Ehiem Lily Pipe which I added to one side of the tank to restrict flow, yet still have a spray bar on the other side, which the fish seem to love and the plants seem happy. The lily pipe helps keep the Ricca together though vs the spray bar. Hope this helps...

Not familiar with these but looked them up http://www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2006/12/do-bio-wheels-really-work.html
Would not work for me as have very hard water in our area, plus I think I prefer the canisters.
