My green severum will be 1 yr in September . He was 1.5" when I got him last September. Now he is about 5". I thought he would be bigger then that at a year old. He grew like crazy the first few months now it's like slowed down a lot.

It must take years for they to get to 8". I do weekly or more 40% wc feed twice a day.

How big was your severum at 1 yr?

At a year (from buying him) Harry was about 6", he is now at 18 months almost 8", severums will grow fairly quickly to 6", then slow down and from 8" onwards takes a good long time.

Agree with Minxfishy, average 6-7" or so. They slow down and bulk out after that.

Mine got to be quite a size, many people don't realise how stocky these fish are, but it takes some time to reach full size.

Also, are you quite sure its a 'he', females will generally be smaller. It could also be that its just poor genes or other biological factors. I mean, not all people will grow to be 6' but that doesn't mean they aren't healthy, just your fish might naturally be smaller. Additionally, when you measure the fish, are you doing it at the side of the glass, estimating or taking it out of the water? You'd be surprised how much difference there could be (I know from when I sold my severum, when he was in my hands he was much bigger than I thought).

My Rotkeils are about 6-7" they are about 18 months old. My little gold is shooting up daily at the moment but only had him a couple of months.

Thanks guys.

Yes it's a male he has the worming on the face. I agree not all people are the same hight and not all fish will be te same size this is true. Last time I had him out if the water was a few months ago and he was just a little smaller then my girlie hand. I have not taken The ruler to him yet. I will just have to wait and see when he starts growing again.
