Just wondering how big molly fry and platy fry are when they're born? I've found a molly fry in my tank which is about 7mm long - so how old would it be?

Seems to be the only one, the others must have been eaten. I've got it in a floating hatchery now. First fish baby I've had :)

When do they start getting some colour, it just seems a bit brown at the minute?

Can you tell from the colour of the parents what colour the fry will be? Like if mum and dad are black mollies will all the fry be black?

thanks

Its prob within two weeks. My mollies were about 5-7m when born, one of them stayed relatively small and the rest are as big as young danios or neons already, they are two weeks today:)

7mm? I'd say a few days, or so. Maybe a week.

And Platy fry look like rice grains...with tummies and eyes. They are really cute though.

When they start getting color will depend on what color they are going to be...for example, if they are solid color, they should gradually get that color. If that have patterns, that might start coming out in a couple months. It all depends.

And yes, you can usually tell from the parents what the fry will look like. If you have Black Mollies, it's entirely normal for your fry to brown...s/he should get darker over time. :)

thanks for the replies. Dad is a black molly, but mum is either white or dalmation.

Btw do mollies and platys interbreed?

Ah, okay, so the fry may may develop some spotting. Or it could just go black, it's hard to say. It all depends on the genetics...

And no, Platies and Mollies cannot interbreed. Mollies and Guppies can, and Platies and Swordies can, but not Mollies and Platies as they are from different families. :)

my black molly had babies i was lucky found 13 of them, not sure wot colour dad was but i've ended up with 12 black & 1 that looks grey/silver. so hard to tell really
